Jonny Hannah: The Captain's Alphabet
The Captain's Alphabet is Jonny Hannah's portfolio of twenty-eight original screen prints for a nautical alphabet. Jonny is one of the most original and exciting illustrators to have graduated from the Royal College of Art in the past few years. His work has been quickly recognised by the design establishment and is now making its mark in the wider world. The Captain's Alphabet is published in association with the artist's own private imprint the Cakes & Ale Press.
There are twenty-eight original prints in the portfolio - one for each letter of the alphabet plus a title page and an ampersand. The prints are each 210 x 210mm on 280 gsm Somerset paper. Jonny Hannah has hand-printed the entire project himself. They are presented in a book-form box covered in a pattern paper designed and printed by the artist. The boxes have been hand-made by the bookbinders, Smith Settle. The Captain's Alphabet is published in an edition limited to 45 sets.
